Scottish Men’s Area Teams

Sadly it was not to be our day at Powfoot.

Our P&KCGU team battled well against a strong North East side and came up just short.

Captain Scott Michie was thrilled with how competitive each of the players were with many of the matches going down to the wire.  We got a glimmer of hope when Glenn took his game down the 19th having been down for most of the game – but a birdie from his opponent saw our 1st point lost.  Lewis Seath’s impressive form continued – and dug deep to pull out a result despite being 2 down with 3 to play – he finished the weekend with a 100% record which is not too bad for your 1st outing in the Gents Team.  Ewan’s game was nip and tuck and again he was able to pull his game back towards the end of a very tight game – and closed it out on the 18th.  Steven Park – having had 3 wins under his belt came up against the North East’s in form player – you don’t often lose 6&5 when your own score is 3 under par!. That left Kenny and Scott at our tail – both chasing down dormie positions.  Kenny was 1 down playing 18 and Scott 2 down playing 17.  Kenny halfed the 18th so it was effectively over, although Scott did manage to birdie the 17th to be one down going to the 18th – but the result had slipped away.

The event was very well organised (except some of the weather) – but we were very lucky considering that the forecast was for Yellow Warnings all weekend.  Thankfully that did not materialise – apart from Sunday morning which was miserable.

The Semi Final vs Ayrshire and the Final vs North East were played in the best of spirits, there was a lot of competitive banter and the team spirit showed by our guys was 1st class.

Thanks as always to Stephen Gardiner Construction (our main sponsor) and to Scottish Golf and everyone connected to Powfoot Golf Club.  It was a great weekend despite coming up just short!
